Statistics Lectures aim to help students develop their understanding in the fundamental issues of statistical reasoning. They provide basic concepts and methods of Descriptive and Inferential Statistics.
Readings, important up-to date information about the course, useful links, and files for downloading (e.g. presentation outlines, supporting materials discussed in class, example test questions, etc.) are available in a Course Google drive - link is sent via Neptun email in the second week of the semester.
We will learn to calculate some BASIC statisics using a calculator. Please bring your own calculator to the lectures and the exam. It should not be a sophisticated machine, but should know how to square root.
IMPORTANT: mobile phones CANNOT be used on the exam as calculators!
Evaluation: Overall conceptual knowledge will be tested by a written exam in the examination period. Both sides of a single A4 sheet with notes CAN be used on the exam (You should develop this "cheat sheet" along the lectures - as preparation for the exam. Retakes for the Exam are possible – as outlined in the University rules for exams.
Readings: selected chapters from the course handbook for background reading is linked to each lecture:
• Minium, E.W., Clarke, R.C., Colodarci, T. (1999) 2nd ed.: Elements of statistical reasoning. Wiley: New York
